Meticulously designed to frame their natural settings, and welcoming each guest as if to the home of a close friend, there’s a sense of peace and belonging amid some of the most diverse natural and historical landscapes.
This is Aman.
It’s no secret that we’re always sharing our favourite resorts and locations with you, and we couldn’t wait to share about Aman, especially since it ranked number one in the Top Luxury Hotel Brands of 2018! Aman’s approach has changed very little since 1988, when their first retreat was built on Phuket’s west coast. Named Amanpuri, meaning ‘place of peace’, Aman was born and today embraces 33 resorts, hotels and private residences across 21 countries, each renowned for their space and privacy.
Each resort is not only in a remarkable location, but also encourages you to seek out new experiences, and fully immerse yourself into that destination, from life-affirming wellness retreats to multi-destination journeys and voyages aboard cruise vessels. Aman truly does believe that the landscape of the resort should take centre stage.
And whilst it’s hard to whittle it down, we wanted to present to you, four of our favourite Aman properties, which are definitely worth experiencing for yourself. After all, we all need a place of peace every once in a while.
Amanbagh, India
Amanbagh is a sanctuary in the arid Aravali hills, once used by Mughal princes as a base for hunting parties. Surrounded by nature which shades the emerald-green pool, you’ll instantly discover welcoming villages, majestic forts and ruins, and the jungle of Sariska National Park where tigers still roam free. With vaulted entrances, domed ceilings and scalloped windows, each suite and pavilion at Amanbagh captures the aesthetic lending to the property’s regal past, encapsulating the culture of the destination.
When you awake to your own private outdoor courtyard, enjoy al-fresco dining with panoramic views and get lost in a wellness immersion, practicing yoga and meditation amidst the natural beauty and temples of the resort it becomes hard to believe that frenetic Jaipur is a mere 90 minutes away.
Amankila, Bali
Stretching from hilltop to private beach, and with an awe-inspiring backdrop of Mount Sacred and unimpeded views of the Lombok Strait, Amankila lies within reach of both atmospheric temples and artisan villages. Whilst Amankila means ‘peaceful hill’, the name is almost a little modest, given the dramatic position overlooking the Balinese East Coast along with its ancient, spiritual and regal neighbours in the historic Karangasem Regency. Raised on stilts and thatched with alang-alang, the suites are beautifully decorated, each providing ocean or garden views. The infinity pool cascades in three tiers down the hillside, and spectacular is truly what it is.
You won’t be short of activities and excursions in Amankila, with water sports, tropical forest treks, rural villages, mountain biking, cultural tours of water palaces and cooking classes to name just a few, and of course, embracing the peace and tranquility which is just the start of the story at Amankila.
Amanwella, Sri Lanka
Located on Sri Lanka’s quiet southern coast, near the fishing town of Tangalle, lies Amanwella. The resort is set amid 37 acres of coconut trees, next to a perfect crescent of golden sand. Combining modernist lines and indigenous materials, each suite is inspired by the work of Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa - with openings on two sides to private plunge pools and large terraces, overlooking the Indian Ocean. The suites are flooded with light, and make a perfect base for a relaxing beach retreat.
Amanwella is located conveniently within reach of many cultural attractions, from tea plantations, to elephant treks and temple visits making sure guests can capture Sri Lanka at its most authentic. That’s if you can pry yourself away from the palm-shaded private beach club and one of the world’s most talked-about 150-foot-long swimming pools.
Amanyara Turks & Caicos
A secluded haven, embracing the best elements of the Caribbean, you’ll find Amanyara set on the beautiful island of Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos. The luxurious resort is blessed with a magnificent, sugar-white beach and shares its borders with the Northwest Point Marine National Park, acclaimed for some of the world’s best wall and reef diving. The design in Amanyara is contemporary, and each pavilion is graced with extensive outdoor space and expansive views of the ocean, tranquil ponds or coastal vegetation.
The exceptional natural setting of Amanyara, ensures there’s no shortage of things to do, especially when it comes to outdoor activities such as scuba diving, turtle tagging or whale watching. Or if you’d rather embrace the meaning of Amanyara, known as ‘peaceful place’, their wellness facilities set around a tranquil pond, provide the perfect opportunity for rejuvenation and relaxation.
If that’s not enough, we’ve heard that they’re also unveiling a new urban sanctuary in the very heart of Manhattan. Opening in New York in 2020, Aman plan to bring some serenity to the central hub of the western world. Hope to see you there!
